Alexander Hamilton was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and one of George Washington’s most trusted military officers. He played a major role in our victory over the British at Yorktown. He was one of the authors of The Federalist Papers and the first Secretary of the Treasury. These are some of his best quotes:
“The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself; and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.”
“Without religion, morality falters. When morality falters the Pandora’s box of corruption, crime and decay set in to be followed by the demise of the nation.”
“Government is frequently and aptly classed under two descriptions -- a government of force, and a government of laws; the first is the definition of despotism -- the last, of liberty.”
“Here, sir, the people govern; here they act by their act by their immediate representatives.”
“Give all the power to the many, they will oppress the few. Give all the power to the few, they will oppress the many.”
